The history of Complex Albota
The beginnings and the growth of the complex
Albota Trout Farm has a fascinating story. Originally built for Nicolae Ceaușescu, this was his favourite place for fishing and bear hunting, as it was his son Nicu Ceaușescu’s. After the Revolution the trout farm lay unused until Martin Mueller decided to turn it into a top tourist destination.
About the founder
Martin Mueller is a successful entrepreneur, known for businesses such as SOBIS, Păstrăvăria Albota, Băcănia Albota and Hermania. Born on 1 September 1957 in Mediaș, he began his education at the Ștefan Ludwig Roth school and went on to the German-language Axente Sever high school. After leaving for Germany in 1978, he studied at the University of Karlsruhe and worked at ABB Mannheim, where he rose quickly through the IT ranks. In 2006 he returned to Romania, investing in tourism and agriculture.
How the complex has grown and been modernised
As its popularity grew, Martin Mueller kept investing in modernisation. Today the complex offers comfortable accommodation, restaurants with traditional and modern dishes, and a great many recreational activities. The rooms and the cabins come with everything you need: fast Wi-Fi, TV, air conditioning, private bathrooms and a balcony! The modernisation also included improvements to the infrastructure, making sure that every facility meets high standards.

The complex’s own bakery
Another thing that makes the complex special is its own bakery. The story of the bakery began with the wish to offer visitors fresh, authentic baked goods. Martin Mueller invested in modern bakery equipment while keeping the traditional baking methods. So the bread and the pastries are made to authentic recipes, with quality local ingredients.
Our own farm
It is not only the bakery that adds to the charm of this complex, but also the farm of its own. Martin Mueller wanted to create a closed, sustainable circuit, making sure that the ingredients used in the restaurant are fresh and of high quality. The Albota farm produces a variety of foods, from vegetables and fruit to meat and dairy products.
Sustainability at Complex Albota
Here we promote sustainability and respect for the environment in every part of the business. We want to be as green as we can, so that our impact on nature is minimal. We believe that each of us has a responsibility to help protect the environment, which is why we have invested in sustainable ways of producing electricity, supplying water and sourcing food.
Renewable electricity
Complex Albota runs its operations with a strong focus on renewable energy. Photovoltaic panels are used to generate the electricity. Placed strategically on the complex’s land, these solar panels capture the energy of the sun and turn it into clean, lasting power. The complex also has a hydropower plant of its own, which uses the water resources available in the area to produce electricity.
This combination of photovoltaic panels and hydropower plant shows the complex’s commitment to renewable energy and to reducing its impact on the environment. By producing our own electricity, we help to cut greenhouse gas emissions and to build a more sustainable, healthier world for the generations to come.
Tradition and the modern world combined
Our aim is to combine tradition with the modern. We have invested in solar panels and a hydropower plant that give us our own electricity. Our trout farm has 14 ponds, and we have a farm near the commune of Cârțișoara where we raise animals that give us fresh food for our restaurants and shops.
Organic food for our guests
Our complex includes a number of workshops: for making cured meats, for processing milk and cheese, and for baking bread and making other foods, such as zacusca vegetable spread, jams and fruit preserves. Through sustainability we rely on organic, ecological production, promoting a healthy and natural way of life.
The food of the region
The restaurant of the complex serves delicious dishes made with local ingredients and traditional recipes. From fresh trout cooked in a variety of ways to local cheeses and cured meats, every meal is an unforgettable culinary experience.
How the trout lakes are maintained and cared for
Maintaining and caring for the trout lakes is a major priority. The team of the complex uses sustainable practices to keep a healthy environment for the fish. The lakes are stocked regularly with trout of various sizes, and the water quality is monitored constantly. A supply of fresh water and good oxygenation are essential to keep the fish healthy and active.
Complex Albota is the perfect combination of nature, tradition and modernity. Whether you are looking for an outdoor adventure or for a place to relax, this is somewhere that gives you everything you need for a memorable experience.
